| Douglas
Bay Point....Situated
in the calm northern cove of Douglas Bay, this dive really has something
for everyone, snorkellers also. We start in 15ft where the mooring is
connected to a boulder. We head off West to the coral ridge , takes about
10 mins slow finning over a rubbly landscape strewn with little pockets
of life that slowly become a thriving reef as we reach 40ft . Keep descending
over the slow slope and it's possible to reach 80ft before heading North
over the reef, where often a large school of southern sennets hang out,
making an unnoticeable ascent as you then veer East toward the cliff face
of Douglas Bay Point that plunges vertically into the ocean hitting the
bottom at 40ft. Shafts of light cascade downwards and dance with the shadows
while illuminating the myriad of shapes that cover the cliff face . We
head back towards the boat following the wall until we get to the corner
where we are met by great pillars, kind of rock towers on either side
totally taken over with marine life. By now we are getting much shallower
, perfect for off gassing as we reach 15ft , and two gigantic ancient
boulders that fell from the overhanging cliff many years ago that now
provide an art show of macro life. Every where you look, it's an alien
world, that we glide through endlessly with huge canyons all around and
macro canyons when you focus close. A beautiful swim through brings you
round the side of these Neolithic boulders , an overhang twisting and
winding with rope sponges that are dripping everywhere. Finally we end
with a swim up through the middle of the two rocks. Careful not to pop
to the surface as we ascend shallow, the colours so vivid on every encrusting
life form that has chosen this place to live. Before you know it we are
close to the boat where you can either exit or stay around in 10ft for
a few minutes more, enjoying the sunlight sparkle on the colours that
surround you. |
