Jony’s Shrimp
Unknown species

The amount of species in Lembeh is phenomenal. Because of this we get to see many many species and have dive guides who are the best in the business for finding them.

Very occasionally the guides find critters that they haven’t seen before. This week one of our guides, Jony, found a crustacean that he hadn’t seen. He made sure that I came over so that I could video it, and afterwards I showed the footage to the other guides, several who have been diving here for over 16 years, and none of them had seen it either.

My quest to find anything about it has so far got nowhere, so we have called it Jony’s Shrimp. It’s just over 1.5cm long and we found it in about 7m of water, living buried in the loose rubble.

Please let me know if you’ve seen a shrimp like this in the Indo-Pacific region.
