Threadfin Sand Diver
Trichonotus elegans

Though this fish is not that uncommon here but it is not often seen and it is very difficult to get close to.

They live in the sand, usually in shallow water. They hang out in groups, with one male, with the distinctive dorsal fin, and his harem of females. There are other groups close by, and the males are always fighting off their neighbours.

When you get to within a meter or so they disappear into the sand, making them very diffuclt to get good shots.

The final bit of the clip shows a male eye closeup, where you can see it’s wonderful eyelashes.
